A kitchen fire Monday night at a home near Derbyshire Road caused about $10,000 in damage, a Fire Department spokesman said. 

Firefighters responded to the fire in the 1200 block of Essex Road shortly before 8 p.m., Lt. Larry R. Stoney said. 

When fire crews arrived on scene, smoke was seen coming from the single story concrete structure. Firefighters entered and found heavy flames coming from the kitchen.

Three residents were inside the home at the time of the fire and all were able to escape without injury.
